Farm Bureau names eight scholarship winners

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Farm Bureau has selected eight to receive its $1,000-a-semester Farm Bureau Foundation college scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

“Farm Bureau has supported education since its founding 73 years ago,” says Stanley Reed of Marianna (Lee County), Arkansas Farm Bureau president. “The continued success of the state’s agriculture industry depends on continually educating those who love the land.

“Certainly, every one of this year’s recipients deserves our support.”

The scholarship winners are:

Beth Ann Bills of Prairie Grove (Washington County), a junior at the University of Arkansas. Her parents are Don and Peg Bills.

William Brant Burkett of McCrory (Woodruff County), a junior at Arkansas State University. His parents are Phil and Regina Burkett.

Tiffany Holiman of Dardanelle (Yell County). She is a junior at Arkansas Tech University, and her parents are David and Patricia Holiman.

Fines Levi Hudson of Mount Judea (Newton County), a University of Arkansas junior. His parents are Richard and Anita Hudson.

• Jaimie McMeechan of Gamaliel (Baxter County). A junior at Southern Arkansas University, her parents are William and Shirley McMeechan.

• Douglas Kameron Sullivan, also of Prairie Grove. A University of Arkansas junior, his parents are Doug and Kim Sullivan.

• Heather Tody of Waldo (Columbia County). A senior at SAU, she is the daughter of DeeDy Tody of DeQueen (Sevier County).

• Brian Young of Monticello (Drew County). He is a senior at University of Arkansas-Monticello, and his parents are Bob and Lisa Young of Portland.

Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships are awarded annually to Arkansas residents pursuing an agriculture-related degree in a state-accredited university. Also, they must be juniors or seniors, have at least a 2.5 grade-point average and belong to Farm Bureau.

Arkansas Farm Bureau is a nonprofit, private advocacy organization of more than 227,000 families throughout the state working to improve farm and rural life.
